Motorex KTM factory racer Jay Marmont is confident to challenge usual front runners for a top podium position at Echo Valley motocross circuit in Toowoomba (QLD) this weekend, following an unbeatable performance at the Sunshine State Series a few weeks ago.
Marmont will be competing in the Pro Open class at round six of the Australian Motocross Championship this Sunday June 24, on the same Toowoomba circuit he won at on at the final round of the Sunshine State Series.
Riding the KTM 450 SX-F, Marmont made a guest appearance at the Sunshine State Series entertaining fans, as he won all Pro Open races he entered, whilst training for this weekend's Australian Motocross Championship.
Since returning to the Australian racing scene, Marmont has had a slower start than he had hoped to reaching his previous form, yet at round five of the Australian Motocross Championship held in Murray Bridge (SA), Marmont claimed his first podium and moved into equal third for the current Championship.
Commenting on his game plan for this weekend, Jay Marmont said, "Since adopting bike settings from my former American KTM factory team-mate Mike Alessi, my racing has taken a turn for the better. I got the holeshot in every race I entered at Toowoomba's Sunshine State Series, and I also got the holeshots at the previous national round, so it's only my former injuries and re-occuring arm pump holding me back now.
"I won the Pro Open class on the KTM 450 SX-F and came second in the Pro Lites' on the KTM 250 SX-F at the Sunshine State finale, I would have won the Lites class as well, but I had a get off which put me back into second. I wasn't at all concerned where I finished at this event, what I did want was to test out the new bike settings taken from Alessi.
"Daniel Reardon may be the favourite for this weekend, but at the last round in Murray Bridge, I was up there battling with him and Daryl Hurley. The three of us were at least 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
"Reardon is at the peak of his career right now and definitely the one to beat, but I first need to reel in Hurley to claim second in the Championship. That will be my game plan for this weekend at Toowoomba.
"I'm on equal third in the Championship with Cody Cooper and I feel confident to pass him this weekend, then Hurley will hopefully be next."
Daniel Reardon (Kawasaki) leads the Pro Open class on 228, Daryl Hurley (Suzuki) is in second on 197, Jay Marmont (Motorex KTM) and Cody Cooper (Honda) sit in equal third on 167 points.
Motorex KTM U/19 year's class competitor Todd Waters, also raced at the final round of the Sunshine State Series in Toowoomba, winning the Expert Class and taking the final round win.
Waters will return to Toowoomba this weekend and step up to the Pro Lite class as the Under 19's class takes a break whilst the women take to the Hilly Toowoomba circuit.
Motorex KTM entrant Kristy Gillespie has proven to be the best performing Australian rider to sit second in the Women's Championship, behind New Zealand rider and World Motocross Champion, Katherine Prumm.
