Italian MotoGP star Marco Simoncelli has died after a terrible accident at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang.
24-year-old Simoncelli was struck by Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi after he low sided on the second lap of the race. Fears where immediately held for his safety after he helmet was visibly ripped off by Rossi's front wheel and he lay strewn on the track.
The race was cancelled as all medical staff fought to save Simoncelli. It was then announced that Simoncelli passed away at 4.56pm local time.
Colin Edwards sustained an injured shoulder in the crash while Valentino Rossi never actually fell of his bike and returned to the pits.
