Another exciting weekend of natural terrain motocross racing was held last weekend (July 14-15) at the Razorback MVRG, near Picton - Wollondilly Shire, as round four of the AMCROSS Series proved vital in drawing attention to those really in contention for their respective class series titles come season's end.
Sanctioned by Macarthur Motorcycle Club, a vast variety of classes for both Senior and Junior riders took to the natural terrain motocross track including local strong competitor and ex Motocross and Supercross champion Paul Grant, who took out All Powers honours in the seniors, while Hayden Mellross in the Junior ranks was the only dual class winner of the weekend.
With Sunday's senior class putting on spectacular competition, it was Paul Grant who triumphed in All Powers. After finishing second to Joel Passlow in the opening race, a non finish in the second race for his closest rival gave Grant the advantage to take home the following two race victories to seal the round win, which was his first this season.
Taking clean sweeps of all heats in their respective classes were Scott Hargraves (250cc 2-Stroke), Bradley Buckle in both the 250cc 4-Stroke and over 250cc 4-Stroke classes, and Jessica Nesbitt in Ladies All Powers for the second round in succession. Other winners included Brook Mitchell (125cc 2-Stroke), Kevin Horton (Over 35s) and Gary Brown (Over 45s).
Meanwhile, with the Junior events that were held earlier on the Saturday, it was Mellross who stood up tallest, taking triple race wins and his second round victory in the 65cc (10-12 years) class, while also scoring the same feat in the 85cc (9-11 years) with three race wins and another round trophy added to his achievements.
James Iconomou (85cc 12-13 years) extended his series class lead with three straight heat wins, while consistency paid for Jordan Dean (250cc 2-Stroke 13-15 years) who claimed his second round victory despite finishing second in all three heats. Other Junior victors were Daniel McEntee (85cc 14-15 years), John Prutti (125cc 13-15 years) and Jaiden Corrigan (65cc 7-9 years) who closed the gap on the class leader to now sit second behind Elias Dukes by a mere seven points.
Winning the Parents class was Trevor Jordan after a triple-peat of second placings, while the Parents Team Event was won by Brett and Tony Lawson after accumulating the most points from each others respective three heat races.
The fifth and penultimate round of the AMCROSS Series will head at Leeton (Riverina, NSW) on the weekend of September 1-2.
