Although Oliver Smith may not be the highest profile rider competing in this weekend's (August 29 and 30) NSW Senior Long Track Championship at the Nepean Motorsport Complex, Castlereagh, he is one of the local hopes.
The Kurmond, near North Richmond, resident is riding in the highly competitive 250cc 4-stroke class and is aiming to stand tall on home soil.
For Smith, who is the current Nepean Motorcycle Club Champion, this is going to be the first occasion he contests the NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship and it is something that he is very much looking forward to.
"I couldn't think of a better place to make my NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship debut than at my home track," the 19-year-old enthused. "I have done the majority of my riding at the Nepean Motorsport Complex and I feel that now is the right time to start contesting the major events."
In terms of his goals for the weekend Smith has set himself realistic aims for his NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship debut.
"If I can just qualify for the final that would be awesome," Smith expressed. "There are 12 starting spots up for grabs in the final and I want to be one of those riders. If I can make the final then anything after that, results wise, will be a bonus."
With the strong support from his parents, Jenny and Andrew, along with Kelen Kawasaki in Penrith, Smith is hoping to reach his goals at this weekend's NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship and with a bit of luck he just might exceed them.
Smith is just one of the many talented riders taking part in this weekend's NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship with other riders including:
Paul Caslick,
Alan Macdonald,
Todd Kurtz,
Marty McNamara and Queenslander
Tyson Nelson, just to name a few.
There is going to be a total of nine classes battling it out for NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship honours and seven support classes.
The NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship is to be held over a total of two days, Saturday (August 29) and Sunday (August 30). The opening qualifying heat races will be held on Saturday, while the remaining qualifying heat races and finals will be fought out on Sunday.
Full canteen and spectator facilities will be on offer throughout the NSW Senior Dirt Track Championship weekend.
Entry for spectators is $20 at the gate and that covers entry for both days, while children under the age of 16 are admitted free of charge.
The Nepean Motorsport Complex is located on Rickards Road, Castlereagh.
