Larsen ready to fight for Super X Lites title in Brisbane

Posted:

JDR Motorex KTM's PJ Larsen is determined to fight to the very end as the Lites category of the 2010 Super X, Australasian Supercross Championship, goes down to the wire at Brisbane's QSAC Stadium this Saturday night, 4 December.

The American rider enters this weekend's season finale just five points behind title leader and defending champion Matt Moss after six rounds contested so far, and he's confident he has what it takes to add the title to his Pro Lites MX Nationals Championship he clinched earlier this year.

"I just have to go in, get some good starts and run up front in all three finals," Larsen said of the Triple Challenge main event. "Hopefully I can take out the win in all three races to take out the championship, but I know there is a lot of competition. I'm looking forward to the challenge so hopefully the weather will hold off for us. Whatever is thrown at us we'll have to deal with."

Both Larsen and Moss ‰ÛÒ who will join JDR Motorex KTM in 2011 as Larsen head up the team's U.S. operation ‰ÛÒ have battled hard throughout the season, the rivalry reaching boiling point last weekend in Sydney.

"It's been really close racing this year with myself and Matt Moss ‰ÛÒ we had a heated argument last weekend, but in all reality it's just a rivalry and every sport's got them," 20-year-old Larsen explained. "I think we both still respect each other and we'll congratulate one another no matter who comes out on top. May the best man win!"

On track to claim third in the Lites title chase is former champion Ryan Marmont, the Wollongong-based crowd favourite lining up for his final Lites class event aboard the 250 SX-F before stepping up to the Open class next year.

Current Open class contender Tye Simmonds will contest his final event in Australia before moving to the U.S. this month in readiness for next year's AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, series.

Simmonds scored a season best of third in Dunedin, New Zealand, two rounds ago, and he's looking to finish out the season on a strong note aboard the 350 SX-F. The 18-year-old from Bourke in New South Wales currently sits fourth in the Open standings.

This weekend will also see KTM's dual Australian Off Road Champion Toby Price return to Supercross racing, pitting with the JDR Motorex KTM team in his Super X debut for the season.
