Yamaha‰Ûªs Grant Langston clocked the fastest lap times today at the inaugural running of the Monster Energy Freestone National, Round 11 of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship. Kawasaki‰Ûªs Ryan Villopoto set the fastest lap time in AMA Motocross Lites at Freestone County Raceway.
Langston is locked up in a four-way battle for the top spot in the AMA Motocross class and holds a slim two point lead over Honda‰Ûªs Andrew Short. His fastest time of 2:12.561 was over a second quicker than Kawasaki‰Ûªs Timmy Ferry at 2:13.755, who sits four points back in third, while Short was third quickest with a 2:15.066. KTM‰Ûªs Mike Alessi, who‰Ûªs fourth in the standings, was fourth fastest at 2:15.105.
Villopoto turned in a fast lap time of 2:14.063 to earn his ninth top qualifying time of the season. Kawasaki teammate Ben Townley, who trails Villopoto by six points in the standings, was second fastest with a 2:15.597. Rookie Austin Stroupe was third quickest with a 2:15.810.
The top 40 riders in each division qualify into tomorrow‰Ûªs two-moto main event. Opening ceremonies start at 12:00 p.m. for tomorrow‰Ûªs Monster Energy Freestone National, Round 11 of the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship Presented by FMF.
