Monster Energy WBR Yamaha’s Ky Woods has retained the red plate and extended his MX3 championship lead after a solid 1-2 performance at round two of the 2025 ProMX Championship at Appin.
After a perfect start to the season at Wonthaggi, where he claimed both moto wins, Woods came into round two at Appin with momentum — and didn’t miss a beat in moto one. He slotted into a good position early, charged into the lead, and never looked back, pulling away for his third straight race win.
“The first race was good and I got a decent lead,” Woods explained. “Then I saw Kayd [Kingsford] went down, so I just needed to stay smart and not do anything silly to get the win there.”
Race two, however, was a different story. A slower start saw Woods buried in fourth, and it wasn’t until lap five that he moved into second and set off after Kayd Kingsford, who had built a six-second lead. Woods chipped away at the gap and looked set to challenge for the win — until a slippery, hardpack left-hander after the finish line caught him out.
“I was using this line in the left-hand turn after the finish line that was hard pack and had no ruts, and I just lost the front with a few laps to go,” he explained. “I felt I rode well again, didn’t lose any points in the championship and the team are working hard, so we are in great shape heading into round three.”
Woods’ 1-2 results tied with Kingsford’s 2-1, but the Yamaha rider was edged out for the round overall based on the second moto finish. Still, he maintains his championship lead and looks strong heading into Gilman.

Meanwhile, it was a gritty return to racing for teammate Koby Hantis, lining up for the first time since shoulder surgery. With less than four weeks of riding under his belt and no local races due to the wet weather in Queensland, Hantis jumped straight into the deep end.
He pushed into the top eight during the opening moto but faded as the lack of bike time caught up. Race two followed a similar pattern, though his determination remains clear.
“Finishing thirteenth isn’t something I’m happy with, but I know I had to start somewhere,” Hantis admitted. “I’ll work harder than ever to get back up the front. The team understand it’ll take some time, and they’ve been great — but each round will get better, and it won’t be too long before I’m battling for podiums again.”
Round three at Gilman will see the full WBR Yamaha line-up in action, including the return of Madi Simpson in the WMX division alongside the MX3 regulars.
