KTM back to one rider as Ford Dale is sidelined again

Posted:

KTM Motocross Racing Team rider Ford Dale‰Ûªs appearance at Swan Hill MX Nats round will unfortunately be the 26-year-old Queenslander‰Ûªs only one of the year, after he fell during training at Coolum last week.

Subsequent scans have revealed the injury to include fractures of four thoracic vertebra which doctors have deemed to be unstable, necessitating another three months off the bike.

It‰Ûªs a tough turn of events for Dale, who earlier missed the first five rounds of the series after a broken left arm during a practice crash prior to the MX Nats opener, and will attend this weekend‰Ûªs round at Conondale as a spectator.

‰ÛÏI just had a crash at Coolum at the start of last week and I just had a bit of back pain throughout the week. The doc put me straight in for an MRI and I have fractures in my T4, 5, 6 and 7," Dale explained.

"I can‰Ûªt do anything about it, I‰Ûªd love to race but if I fell off there‰Ûªs a chance that I could do some real damage. I‰Ûªm gutted obviously but I don‰Ûªt think it‰Ûªs fully sunk in yet. Probably will when I‰Ûªm there this weekend watching everybody else race.‰Û

Meanwhile KTM‰Ûªs Kirk Gibbs remains a genuine contender in what is becoming a highly competitive MX1 championship.

Gibbs will enter the round just 19 points in arrears of defending champion Matt Moss, and 26 points ahead of Jake Moss, after a 3-2 result at Swan Hill in Victoria just a fortnight ago.

‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs good to be nice and close for this one, not quite close enough to sleep in my own bed the night before but still good," Gibbs said.

"I‰Ûªll be going about usual business, obviously trying to get good starts because it‰Ûªs a short start straight and we‰Ûªve got shorter motos, and just trying to ride it smart.

"It‰Ûªs a tricky track in the morning, very slippery, very grassy, very wet, and it forms up some pretty good lines later in the day. I enjoy going there; it‰Ûªs up and down the side of a hill and it‰Ûªs got some pretty cool jumps there, it‰Ûªs all just fun. It‰Ûªs also somewhere I always seem to do well,‰Û
