The 2007 World Junior Motocross Championship is being held on 12 August at Sevlievo, Bulgaria. It is the same track that hosts Round 8 of the World Motocross Champs 17-18 June.
Motorcycling NZ are not sending an official team however riders can always enter as a privateer and pay your own way, as has happened in the past. The classes for the event are: 85cc class minimum age 12 years maximum age 15 years. 125cc class minimum age 15 years maximum age 18 years. The limit for the maximum age finishes at the end of the year. With the volume of entries each year there are qualifying races.
Hamish Dobbyn is going to those World Juniors 'under his own steam' at the invitation of Harry Everts, father of current and multiple World Motocross Champion Stefan Everts. Hamish will leave mid July and spend a month before the event with Harry who will mentor and train him for the four weeks leading up to the event and during it.
To assist Hamish through this major undertaking Auckland businessman Paul Williams has taken on role of Dobbyn's Manager. Williams has a motocross background from the late 70's and still participates in Vet Class events.
Williams is being kept busy sourcing sponsorships as well as having an interactive website built for Hamish. The first such sponsorship to be announced is that of motocross importer/wholesaler SportsPro in Auckland. They have just signed Hamish to Fox MX Clothing, Scott Goggles, Boyesen, Wiseco, Uni Filter, PJ1 Oils and FMF exhaust systems.
Hamish still has his Australian commitments with Yamaha Victoria and Williams said:
"They are being extremely supportive and excited about where Hamish is heading. Hamish has not been riding for the Yamaha Victoria Junior Development Team as has been previously reported but for Yamaha Victoria. This enables Hamish to promote his own Australia and New Zealand sponsored products without complication and importantly he is not blocking a spot in the Development Team for an Australian resident."
Williams continued: "We are also introducing a new physical training program - the same as used by Aussie KX superstar Daniel Reardon. Hamish will also have a nutrition program."
Immediately after the World Junior event Dobbyn will return to Coolum (Queensland) to participate in the Australian Junior Nationals where he will ride for Yamaha Victoria.
Williams also confirmed that Dobbyn will travel to the USA in early 2008 to attend the infamous Loretta Lynn's training ranch.
