Yamaha racer, ‰Û÷King Kirk‰Ûª Hutton, made the first step towards his 10th Yamaha Queensland Enduro Championship yesterday, taking the win at round one of the series held at Goomburra , near Warwick, last weekend.
Despite a nasty crash in the first special test on Saturday, Hutton was able to beat the 14-strong field of pro‰Ûªs to win the event by about 38-seconds, second was seventeen-year-old protege, Tom McCormack.
Two rounds remain in the championship: July 31st and August 1st at Mackay and September 11th and 12th at Cherrabah Resort, also near Warwick.
"My crash on Saturday was pretty big... as I came out of the creek in the first special test, I tried to get on the power a bit too hard and the back end stepped out into a stump that was hiding in the long grass," Hutton said.
‰ÛÏIt high-sided me on to the ground fairly hard. I stalled the bike and it knocked the wind out of me, but I was able to get up and get going again.
‰ÛÏThe YZ450F started first kick and I got away, losing minimal time.
‰ÛÏAfter Saturday‰Ûªs mishap, Sunday was a lot better. I put my head down and was able to gap the field with some smooth and consistent rides in all of the special tests, dodging the rocks as best I could.
‰ÛÏThe goal is to get my 10th Queensland Enduro Championship, but I don‰Ûªt want to focus on that and think about it too much while I‰Ûªm riding.
‰ÛÏI‰Ûªll just take each track and each test as they come and have fun while I‰Ûªm doing it," Hutton concluded.
McCormack's stock grow every day as the youngster from Byron Bay continues his run at the pointy end of the field, his second overall ebing another top result.
‰ÛÏIt was a tough weekend. I just had fun, tried my hardest and it turned out alright,‰Û
