Kevin Windham has been drafted into the Honda Red Bull Racing team to fill in for the injured Davi Millsaps. Millsaps suffered serious rib, shoulder and Kidney injuries in a crash in the closing laps of the Budds Creek round of the Lucas Oils AMA Motocross Championship o Jun 19th.
At 32 years of age, Windham enjoyed one of his strongest seasons ever during the 2010 Supercross series, finishing the year in the runner-up spot. He climbed the podium eight times, and posted two consecutive race wins in Seattle and Salt Lake City.
"I'm really excited about this opportunity to fill in for Davi until he's healthy and ready to race again," said Windham.
"As I said earlier this year, I had no intentions of racing the full Motocross season, but it will be great to get back on the bike and fill in for a few races. I want to thank my GEICO Powersports Honda team for supporting me in this effort, and of course Honda Red Bull Racing for giving me this opportunity to team with Andrew Short and Ashley Fiolek. This should be a lot of fun," Windham concluded.
Windham will begin racing in round seven held at the Spring Creek event on July 17 in Millville, MN, and stay on board until Millsaps recovers from his injuries and returns to the Honda Red Bull Racing team. No time frame for Millsaps recover has been forecast.
