Justin Barcia made a determined return to racing over the weekend at the Southwick National, charging to a top-10 finish in Round 5 of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship—his first outing since injuring his knee during Round 14 of the Supercross season in East Rutherford.
Sidelined for the final three rounds of Supercross, Barcia’s comeback came in the brutally rough sands of The Wick 338, where the Rockstar Energy GASGAS Factory Racing rider showed flashes of his trademark aggression and resilience.
Still working his way back to full fitness, Barcia opened the day with a hard-fought 10th in Moto 1 before launching off the gate in Moto 2 to run inside the top five early on. Though fatigue from his time off began to show, he held strong to finish ninth in the second moto and claimed ninth overall on the day.
“Today was challenging!” Barcia admitted. “It was good to be back with the crew and the team. I wouldn’t say it was a fun day because Southwick is pretty brutal! The fans are awesome, so that was a positive, and a top 10 is not too bad after coming straight from therapy. We’ll take it, and we’ve got some things to build on, so that is good. I ripped a good start in Moto 2, so I was happy with that, I showed some grit, and now onto RedBud!”
Barcia’s return is a welcome boost for the team heading into the second half of the Pro Motocross season, as he looks to build momentum and regain full race fitness. He’ll line up again on July 5 at RedBud in Michigan.
