Former Australian Superbike Champion Josh Waters has continued impressing his peers and the world, with another strong display in his first ever World Superbike Championship race ‰ÛÒ via a wild card entry into Round One at Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia this weekend.
The 24 year old from Mildura in country Victoria finished today's qualifying in 11th place and was positioned as high as 9th place, en route to the second round of the three stage 'Superpole' elimination style format; his fastest time a career best 1'32.196.
Waters is competing this weekend for the first time with the highly respected Yoshimura Suzuki Racing Team. Whilst the Yoshimura name is synonymous with two-wheeled racing around the globe, their own team does not compete the full World Superbike Championship and plans to decide on future championship commitments following the Phillip Island round.
We are planning to do three rounds, in the next two rounds we are yet to decide who the rider will be. I'm going to decide after this weekend, after we see how Josh goes and how he feels on our bike." Said Fujio Yoshimura (Yoshimura Japan President).
Starting from the third row, in what can only be described as a stellar international field and racing with Yoshimura is an opportunity Waters does not take lightly; and one he plans to grab with both hands for tomorrows race.
"Lining up on the third row tomorrow along side some of my long time heroes is just an amazing feeling. The Yoshimura team have just been so good to me and I'm really enjoying the experience. I'm going to do everything I can tomorrow to make the most of it!" Josh Waters said.
