Team Shell Fly Honda junior ride Josh Cachia is on the mend after a nasty
accident during practice at round three of the Australian Supercross
Championship at Rosedale in Victoria left the 14-year-old with some serious
injuries.
Cachia was landed on when a rider in front of him rolled a double leaving the
same manoeuvre as his only option. Unfortunately another bike came down on
his head causing considerable damage.
Josh was rushed to hospital where it was confirmed that he received a
fractured neck, a fracture of the first and second ribs and deep gashes to his chin. The
fracture to his neck was fortunately not a dangerous one as far as paralysis
goes but the fracture to his 1st rib was of grave concern as it is considered on
of the toughest bones in the body and people who brake it usually rupture
their Aorta.
After a short stay in hospital where doctors monitored him closely and
performed plastic surgery on his chin he was released and is now
convalescing at his home in Kilmore.
Cachia was the leading contender for the 85cc 14/15 years supercross title
but will now miss most of the season but is hopeful of being at the
Australian titles at Coolumn, QLD, later in the year.
