Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes has finished in a fighting second place in the 2012 MCE British Superbike Championship after an exciting triple-header showdown at Brands Hatch in Kent on Sunday at the final and 12th round of the series.

Brookes led the final race of the year from the start from arch rival Shane "Shakey" Byrne, but the former British Champion overtook him in the closing stages to claim the race victory - and thus his third BSB title - to win the series by 28 points from the GSX-R1000-mounted Australian.

Brookes produced his usual fully-committed effort at Brands, finishing on all three podiums, taking his season-long tally to 20 and finished all 26 races.

"After the first two races of the weekend I admit I was off as I could see the Championship slipping away from me." Brookes stated. "But now that it's over, I'm fully relaxed and happy with the effort we all made this year."

"We've been really consistent, finished every race; and I haven't crashed during any of the races; I've given it my all," he added.

"If we were working on conventional points I would have won the Championship but that's the way it goes. The Showdown format can work for you or in this case against you," explained the 29 year old.

"Shakey is a great rider and full credit to him, but I'll be back looking to take that number one spot next year.

With the season over, Brookes will head back to his home in Sydney, Australia to rest up before setting his sights on the 2013 British Superbike championship

"Thanks to everyone for their effort, To our sponsors Tyco and all the other associate sponsors who showed up in force this year to support the team; to Suzuki for a great bike; and of course my team who I cannot fault."

"It's back to Australia now to recharge the batteries then I'll be back for more in 2013." concluded Brookes

The season was near perfect for they whole of the Tyco Suzuki team, with the team suffering no mechanical issues and no crashes, which is testament to the whole Tyco Suzuki team and the package they have produced in BSB.

Team Manager Philip Neill, though naturally a little disappointed to miss out on the championship was immensely proud of his Australian rider along with every member of his team.

"Although we are obviously a little disappointed not to deliver the British Superbike Championship for Suzuki and our sponsors, I am immensely proud of my team and of course Josh, for what has been a superb season of racing." Neill stated.

"Josh and his crew have a 100 per cent finish record this season; the only rider within the Championship Showdown to achieve this record.

"Obviously it means little but if we were running under a standard Championship points system Josh would be the champion. However we all know the Showdown can work for you or against you and the system certainly does provide an exciting end to the season. " he continued.

"For the final time this year I would really like to say a massive thank you to Suzuki, Tyco Security Products and all our other loyal partners for their support during what has been an amazing season. Come back and do it all over again with us again next year." Neill concluded.
