Top Under 19's competitor Joel Paslow from Wagga in NSW has been seriously injured in a freak accident at the NSW Senior Titles last Sunday at Oakdale, NSW.
Paslow's fuel cap came off his bike during the race spilling fuel all over him. Officials noticed immediately and prepared to black flag the former junior champion but Paslow noticed before he got to them. As soon as he noticed he pulled up but the bike erupted in flames and being already covered in fuel he himself was soon engulfed as well.
Friends said that he ran straight for a nearby dam. On the way officials sprayed him down the best they could with water but a lot of damage had been done with everything down to his knee braces melting in the heat.
He was immediately airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney. He is still in theatre and has been there since 7.30am today (Monday), and will be going into intensive care high dependency unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital.
