Jed Beaton has made a strong start to the 2025 ProMX Championship, securing the opening-round victory at Wonthaggi after a fierce battle with archrival Kyle Webster.
The battle began early in the morning’s Superpole, with the Monster Energy CDR Yamaha rider edging out defending champion Webster by just 0.2 seconds, with both riders posting times two seconds quicker than the next-best competitor. As anticipated, it was a race between the two all day long.
In the first moto, Webster grabbed the holeshot and led from the start, but Beaton was quick to move up from outside the top five. By the end of lap two, he had moved into second and began closing the gap on the leader. For the next 25 minutes, Beaton worked relentlessly, reducing the margin to just a few bike lengths with only two laps remaining. Despite his best efforts, Beaton couldn’t get close enough to make a move, and he crossed the line just one second behind Webster to take second.
In the second moto, Beaton flipped the script, pulling a rare holeshot and quickly establishing a lead over Webster. By lap five, Webster had closed the gap to just a couple of seconds, and the tension was building. But as the sixth lap began, Webster made a costly mistake in the rollers and was violently ejected from his bike, leaving him unable to finish the race. With Webster out, Beaton had a clear path to victory, and he managed to extend his lead, finishing 40 seconds ahead of the next rider.

“First up, I didn’t see what happened to Kyle, but the team told me it was a pretty good crash, and I hope he is okay,” Beaton said. “I enjoy racing with him, and we both knew we were locked into a battle to the end. Even though I was second in race one, I was able to stay in the fight and race him all the way to the end, so I took some positives from that.”
“Happy to grab the win and get the season started on a positive note,” Beaton said. “I won Superpole, and then even though I was second in race one, I was able to stay in the fight and race him all the way to the end, so I took some positives from that. Then I pulled a holey in the last one, and I think it took me a lap to settle down as they have been pretty rare for me. I was able to put in some solid laps, weather the storm a little, then bring it home.”
Beaton’s overall victory at Wonthaggi gives him a great start to his 2025 campaign. “Thanks to the team for a great weekend, and looking forward to getting after it at Appin in a few weeks’ time,” he concluded.
