James Stewart stretches his lead in the Amp’d AMA Mobile Supercross

It was business as usual as James Stewart put another win in the bag as the factory Kawasaki rider goes about making the 2007 Amp'd AMA Mobile Supercross season his own. Ryan Villopoto - has - made the West Coast Lites class his own and took his 5th win of the six rounds in the books so far. At the drop of the gate in the main there where a couple of new faces in this mix as Team Kawasaki's Tim Ferry took the holeshot with the - absent from any results for ages - Kevin Windham finally showing some front running speed right behind. The factory Honda rider quickly put Ferry behind him to take the lead in what has been his first glimpse of clear vision in a very long time. Yamaha's Chad Reed sat comfortably in third with Stewart a distance back in fourth. By lap six Stewart had gotten past Reed and Ferry and then moved into the lead on lap six. This left Ferry and Windham in a battle for second whilst Reed seemed lacklustre in fourth. Reed made his way around Ferry mid race to get onto the podium position but far from where he needed to be. Reed finally took Windham for second but with Stewart 13 seconds ahead it was once again all done and dusted as the Australian would need a big mistake by Stewart for a Gimme. Reed still didn‰Ûªt have second in the bag though as both Windham and Ferry where both only a couple of seconds back. Windham hit a tough block and allowed Ferry past and lost his shot at a much needed podium. So once again Stewart crossed the line first with Reed a way back in second and Ferry in third, a repeat of last weeks podium. Windham hung on for fourth with Travis Preston, Michael Byrne, Heath Voss and Ivan Tedesco coming home in that order. "Man I am so pumped right now," Stewart screamed from the podium. Asked on his new found riding maturity he added, "I had a big crash earlier I didn't want to work hard just to loose it so I just worked it. Right now we are still at the beginning of the season and we still have a long way to go so I will just keep busting these things out." Reed didn't sound to disappointed with his lot for the night and had a good explanation for what seemed to be a lacklustre performance. "I got a bunch of sand in my throat in the early laps and I couldn‰Ûªt get a good mouthful of air. I felt awesome tonight and it was just a poor main event. I was better than that tonight, Overall, Chad didn't show up this weekend," he laughed. LITES CLASS
Championship leader Ryan Villipoto once again nailed the holeshot which was ominous sign for the opposition in the West Coast Lites class but the man who is second in the points, Yamaha of Troy's Jason Lawrence, was right behind in second with Honda's Josh Grant in third and Jake Weimer and Josh Hill With the two championship leaders together this would be the first true indicator as they went head to head, it didn't start out good as Lawrence stuffed the Monster Energy /Pro Circuit rider which Villipoto didn't take kindly to and returned the favour which threatened to turn into an on track brawl. Luckily the duo got back to racing and it was on. Up until lap 5 Lawrence held on to Villipoto but was slowly dropping of the pace as little mistakes crept into his game, but then Villipoto ploughed into a downed lapped rider and handed the leader back to Lawrence. Now the interest was in if Lawrence could hold of the championship leader. It wasn't to be though as Villipoto was back in front on lap 8 and from there things turned onto a repeat of the last 5 times Villipoto has gotten the lead, he just cruised to the chequered flag. Lawrence did ride a stable second as did Grant in third, Josh Hill and Martin Davalos rounded out 4th and 5th respectively. "I am happy to be up here and to be in a championship position and maybe in a position to clinch it next week," said Villipoto.
