Team VRT Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Jake Cannon continued to build momentum in his rookie EMX250 season with a personal-best sixth overall at round six of the European Motocross Championship in Ernée, France.
The Australian teenager showed resilience across both motos on the iconic hillside circuit. In Saturday’s opening race, Cannon battled on the edge of the top ten for most of the moto before a strong late push saw him secure ninth place.
Sunday’s second moto presented early challenges, with Cannon shuffled back to eighteenth after a first-turn shuffle and a small mistake on lap one. Refusing to give in, he launched an impressive comeback ride, slicing his way through the pack to finish ninth once again. The consistent top-ten results earned him sixth overall for the weekend—his best finish to date in Europe.
“We’re heading in the right direction with top-tens in both motos,” Cannon said. “I still have a lot of things to iron out and put together, but we’re getting there. This was a proper race track where you had to be smart and patient because things could happen quickly. And the public were crazy—there was a hillside there, but all I could see were people and you could hear them all moto!”
After six rounds, Cannon has now moved up to sixteenth in the championship standings as he continues his development against Europe’s best.
