MXD rider Jacob Williams has returned home after spending three nights in hospital after a nasty final lap crash in the first moto at the opening round of the 2014 Monster Energy MX Nationals.
The Williams Full-tilt Racing KTM Pilot was coming through the field in the final stages of the race and was looking at picking up another position or two on the final lap when he crashed heavily, landing on his side.
Feeling a great deal of pain, Williams was taken to a local hospital where is was revealed that he had split his liver, before immediately being transferred The Alfred hospital in Melbourne
After spending the first night in the trauma unit, he was transferred to the ICU for observation the following day and was released from hospital on Wednesday morning.
At this point in time the rider who turns 18 tomorrow, is looking at a month long lay-off from riding and is already eager to return to the race track.
Williams and his family could not praise, Suzuki Racesafe, WEM and The Alfred hospital enough for the way he was treated from the moment he hit the ground, until he was released to return home to Horsham.
"The whole thing from the moment Jacob hit the ground was handled to the letter of care," Jacob's father Merv Williams told fullnoise.com.au. Racesafe who always are the at MX Nationals give all riders piece of mind, there professionalism is second to none.
"The Northern Hospital staff handled and diagnosed Jacobs injury with pin point accuracy. The Alfred Trauma Unit and ICU blew me away, I have in the past heard about there level of expertise but seeing It first hand gave me goose-bumps, it was like watching the mechanical workings of a Swiss watch, everything orchestrated precisely and timed to the second.
"The Novatel Hotel and their staff were great, they made myself and Kim feel like one of the family. We have to give a huge thanks to the ambo's, our part time mechanic Casey Snowden, Corey and Bailey Watts , Mark Hancock , the McNally family, Kevin Williams and the WEM crew, all of the motorcycling community and the hundreds of friends, family and well wishes on Face Book, our sponsors and there support throughout this week" Merv added.
