On A weekend when the world‰Ûªs best superbike riders showed-off their elite skills during the World Superbike Championship a young aspiring rider from Geelong broke not one - but four lap-records.
Jacob Whitehouse flew around the world-famous circuit clocking a record time of 1:59.232 in the junior 2-stroke class on his RMU GP80, making him the youngest-ever Australian to break the 2-minute barrier at the island, on his way to secure first-place at Round 2 of the Motorcycle Road Race Development Association‰Ûªs Reevu Helmets Winter Series at Phillip Island on Sunday, February 23.
‰ÛÏI was pretty happy with my performance." Whitehouse admitted. "I got pole position for the first race by 7 seconds. I won the first race by 32 seconds, won all four races, and broke the lap record four times.
The Victorian set a new qualifying record of 1:59.779 on Saturday, February 22 beating the current race lap record he set in September 2013. That set the tone for the weekend and the records kept on tumbling.
His was clocked in Race 1 at 1:59.758. In Race 2 he was timed at a scintillating 1:59.232 and in the final race he was recorded at 1:59.286.
The 2013 Australian Junior 85cc 2-Stroke champion is sitting comfortably in first after a successful opening two rounds of the top junior national competition for road racers.
Whitehouse was also one of the very few Australians to get the chance to compete in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup selection event at the Monteblanco Circuit in Spain last year.
Whitehouse has reached speeds of 177 kilometres per hour at the Phillip Island Circuit on his RMU GP80 and is hoping for big things this year and beyond.
