The Inaugural running of the Steve Brandt Memorial Cup is being held at the Motocross Riders Association‰Ûªs track at Gillman this Sunday the 16th October.
Steve was a dedicated father and Husband that enjoyed the sport of Motocross and had a great passion in spending his leisure time with his whole family at the track, supporting his two sons Aaron and Luke who would both race in the junior classes along with his wife Leisa who was always at the track in a official role making sure the race days could be ran.
Not only would Steve get to the track early and help with any scrutineering or other official duties he could help out with, he would also spend the day ensuring his boys were ready to go racing and at the events were time permitted throw a leg over his YZ450F and have a race himself.
Steve also played a major part in getting the stadiumX races up and going under lights at both of MRA‰Ûªs two tracks which has morphed into a StadiumX series for 2011, by supplying machinery and lights through his line of work. Steve really helped shape the MRA club into a place riders could go and have the chance to race under lights.
Steve tragically passed away earlier this year while participating in a motocross event, It was a sad day for the whole motocross community, and more so for his young family for which Steve lived for.
The Motocross riders association, Motorcycling SA, Shane and Amy Metcalfe and close friends of the Brandt family have got together to show their support and appreciation of the time and effort Steve put into not only the club but the sport in general and put together this weekend‰Ûªs event that will be a social race day catering to all riders, a race in the spirit of how Steve himself would race, a bit of fun racing together with your mates.
Along with the days racing there will also be a family funder raiser, with raffles (Yamaha Peewee 50) and major Auctions items; ( including signed Jerseys from Ryan Dungey, Brett Metcalfe, Chad Reed, Michael Bynre, Cam Sinclair and much much more) throughout the day with plenty of off track fun to be had.
The Motocross industry have been very supportive with donations to make this all possible and the Brandt family are very grateful.
Riders can sign on to race on the day, though supplementary regulations can be found on the MSA web page for those who want to get through a little quicker, full canteen and bar facilities will be available on the day.
