Mackay was buzzing this morning after news broke to the Northern Queensland community that the seventh round of the Nokia MX Nationals will be contested at the Gum Valley Motocross Track on Sunday 1 July next year.
Nokia MX Nationals Promoter,
Kevin Williams was joined by Nokia MX Nationals Ambassador,
Craig Dack at
Bullet Bikes yesterday to launch the Mackay event, which will see 120 motocross bikes converge on Gum Valley Motocross Track for the first national championship event to be held at the circuit in 18 years.
"The response at the launch was fantastic," Williams said, "The Mackay newspaper and the local television news service [Seven] both attended the launch and have since published information on the event. Everybody is very enthusiastic about being able to see our world class riders compete in their own backyard."
"Considering there is still eight months until the round, the Mackay event is already receiving a great deal of attention and it is only expected to increase in the lead up to the round with additional media activities and school visits already planned to occur."
"I would really like to thank the staff at Bullet Bikes and
Redline Honda for their welcoming support of the series and its return to Mackay. The venue owners, John and Ann Hand were more than obliging to meet our requirements and the Gum Valley Motorcycle Club are putting in a lot of effort to guarantee a great venue."
Nokia MX Nationals Ambassador and 12-time National Champion, Craig Dack, rode at the last national event hosted at Gum Valley in 1988 and believes that the return of motocross racing to Mackay is another step in the development of the sport and series.
"Regional Australia is really passionate about motorbikes and motocross racing in particular. These centres often miss out on receiving live sporting events and I think it is great that our series is taking the time to satisfy the needs of these communities."
"Already things are suggesting that Gum Valley is going to be a fantastic round of the 2007 Nokia MX Nationals. The Mackay community is really looking forward to seeing the riders in action and I think we can expect to see a bumper crowd at the event."
The seventh round of the Nokia MX Nationals will take place at Gum Valley Motocross Track on Sunday 1 July. Racing will be divided into three categories, Pro Open, Pro Lite and the ‰Û÷All Powers‰Ûª support class. Additional information can be found at
