With just three rounds remaining, in the Nokia MX Nationals Honda has created a substantial lead in the newly incepted Australasian Dirt Bike (ADB) Manufactures‰Ûª Cup in both the Pro Open and Pro Lite classes.
In 2006, the first-ever ADB Manufactures‰Ûª Cup will be awarded to the motorcycle manufacturer, which, as a whole performs the best over the 10-round series. Points for the competition are based upon the same points awarded to riders who finish inside the top 20 in each race completed. Instead of the points going to the individual, they are awarded to the manufacturer of the motorcycle they compete on.
A string of four round victories in a row by No Fear Honda‰Ûªs, Craig Anderson (CRF450) has assisted Honda in obtaining the lead in the Pro Open category with 1033 points with Yamaha sitting second on 647 points.
However, the blue brigade is currently being chased down by the green with Kawasaki just 15 points behind in third. Suzuki and KTM round out the top-five in the ADB Manufactures‰Ûª Cup with 484 points and 305 points, respectively.
In the Maxxis Tyres Pro Lites Championship, Honda also has a commanding lead over second with 959 points. KTM is second with 799 points. Followed by Yamaha (727), Kawasaki (526) and Suzuki (40).
ADB editor, Andy Wigan, said the Manufactures‰Ûª Cup was established to add another dimension to Australia‰Ûªs leading motocross series which, professionally, has progressed this year.
"All five major manufacturers have really stepped up their support of both factory teams and privateers at
the Nokia MX Nationals this year, so we thought it was only fitting to recognise this with the inaugural ADB Manufactures‰Ûª Cup - a perpetual trophy awarded to the manufacturer who amasses the most points in both
Pro Open and Pro Lites classes,‰Û
