Honda MPE was privileged to be asked to be involved in a Benefactors‰Ûª
Presentation held by the Children‰Ûªs Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA) earlier
this month in Sydney to recognise the organisers of the annual Snowy Ride.
The main benefactor of the Snowy Ride is the "Steven Walter Fund", a non-profit organisation
that was started following the passing of nineteen year old Steven Walter after an
eight year battle with cancer.
Snowy Ride organisers including Sue Walters and Allan McGuirk have worked tirelessly with
Honda over the past 5 years to continue to offer the popular event that has helped raise a
total of approximately $1 million for the Institute.
Riders come together to raise money for research into childhood cancer and its side effects,
with Honda providing the major prize draw each year for the event including a motorcycle(s) of
the winner‰Ûªs choice to the value of $20,000.
This past year was the fifth consecutive running of the event which continues to attract
around 2,500 motorcyclists to the Alpine Region of NSW via some of the best roads on offer in the country.
According to Walters, "our success has only been possible due to Honda‰Ûªs support," whilst Honda Australia‰Ûªs General Manager,
Motorcycles, Tony Hinton explained
exactly why Honda‰Ûªs involvement is so important to all parties.
"The CCIA is the only independent medical research institute in Australia dedicated to research
into the causes, cure and prevention of childhood cancer. Their vision is to save the lives of
all children with cancer and eliminate their suffering through world-class medical research."
"I don‰Ûªt think we could be involved in a more worthy cause and to be a part of it is extremely
rewarding on so many levels."
According to Joe Collins, Executive Chairman of the CCIA, it is difficult to say thank you adequately
to the people and groups involved for helping to deliver their commitment to childhood cancer research.
"Every so often there is an individual or organisation that helps the Institute in a most exceptional way.
The highest honour the Institute can bestow upon supporters of this nature is the appointment of a
Benefactor. Their contributions are being transferred into real progress for our research effort."
