Honda Australia has signed on as major naming rights sponsor for a new minibike series being promoted by devoted fan and
industry purveyor John Cook of Wire Racing.
The five round series will commence on Sunday, July 31st at the Archfield International Speedway in Brisbane with an additional
two rounds to also be held in Queensland, and another two to take place in New South Wales.
With a cash prize pool of over $20,000 and an expected 200 plus entries across eight classes, the series is expected to be highly
successful.
"These events are like watching supercross on a smaller scale. They are fun for everyone because the racing is fierce and absolutely
anyone has a chance of winning," Cook said.
The mini racing craze has certainly caught on in the US where events such as the high stakes Las Vegas Minimoto Supercross Nationals
held last May saw the arena completely packed out. Honda Australia's own CRF50 racer Blake 'Bilko' Williams ‰ÛÒ who will compete
at Brisbane next weekend - took part in the mayhem in Vegas where he finished an impressive 3rd.
"I actually accompanied Bilko to Vegas so I know how good he is. He will be one to watch for sure," Cook noted.
Fellow Honda sponsored rider and freestyle top gun Cameron Sinclair is committed to the Honda Mr Mini series as well as number
of other high profile riders such as Peter Melton, Paul Broomfield and Mark Avard.
Honda Territory Manager, Ray Barnes, who was integral to getting the sponsorship deal off the ground said the manufacturer
couldn't be happier that interest in mini racing is starting to take off in Australia.
"Honda has always been supportive of finding new ways to get people of all ages into motorcycling. Racing minis caters to
riders of all ages so it makes a lot of sense for us to be involved in the development of the sport," Barnes said.
"Spectators will be seeing some of this country's top flight off road riders take each other on in a serious way on the 31st,"
he continued.
"It's a great day out for the whole family so I encourage everyone to come down and have a look."
Competition classes will include Stock, Modified 88, Open, Limited 88, Modified 110, Women's Open, Import and Super
Modified, the latter of which will attract the largest prize pool.
In addition to hefty cash prizes, the second place Super Modified podium finisher overall will receive a brand new Honda
CRF50, the hottest little machine on the market today.
