The Weather Gods are expected to shine down on Broadford's State Motorcycle Sports Complex on Saturday, February 12, as Victoria's best sidecar riders battle it out for the Eagle Fuels 2011 Victorian Dirt Track Sidecar Championships.
Victorian title favourite Warren Monson, who figures in the nation's top 10, is expected to be challenged not only by the weather but by Victoria's best up and comers Rick Curran and Simon Hartley.
36-year-old Monson also faces strong competition from sidecar ace Robert 'Fruit Bat' Patterson, who just recently broke Broadford's long-standing Speedway track-record of six years, by clocking 54:53secs.
Previous record-holder and Sheppartonian, Malcolm German, is breaking out of a 3-year-long retirement to reclaim his place amongst the state's elite.
SSRAV Motorcycle Club delegate and Motorcycling Victoria's Speedway Committee member Gary Timmerman is excited about Malcolm's comeback. "He seems to get faster with age; he's a real dark-horse to win the title," said Gary.
Gary believes that the sport has progressed well in Victoria in the past three years, and expects a breakthrough year for Victorian riders. "We've got Warren Monson who can certainly challenge the Australian Championships in South Australia in March," added Gary.
"Aussies develop the best sidecar riders in the world and Victorians like Monson can certainly lead the pack."
Gates open at 11am at Broadford's State Motorcycle Sports Complex, Strath Creek Road, Broadford.
