Ballard's Yamaha Off-Road Team's Chris Hollis will be starting Day 3 of the 30th annual Hog's Breath
Cafe Australian Four Day Enduro in top spot after beating the 350-strong field on days one and two by
more than 40-seconds.
Today was Day 2 of the four day event. The race, which is being held just outside Warragul in Victoria,
will wrap up with an epic final motocross on Sunday.
Preliminary results show Hollis ahead by more than 40-seconds following today's grueling, 7.5 hour
course.
Hollis, from Port Macquarie (NSW) lead GHR Honda's
AJ Roberts (Queensland) by 19-seconds after
Day 1. Roberts remained in second outright on Day 2.
"I'm feeling really good, I hadn't heard any rumors today on how anyone was doing, so I just went out
and tried to do my best in every test," Hollis said during the afternoon media conference.
"I have been in this position before [leading outright], not at a four day, but at the [Yamaha Australian Off-
Road Championships]... there was a time when I would have crashed or something and stuffed it up, but
I think I have just matured as a rider.
"I sort of know where I want to go and I'm just doing it. It's not hard for me to get out of bed and go
training, I love it."
Hollis, 23, said he was changing "a lot of air filters" and trying to keep out the dust as much as possible in
trail sections to conserve his machine.
"I have been trying to leave a good gap between me and other riders, I've got AJ [Roberts] and
Jake
[Stapleton] on my minute, so they are both pretty smart on trail and we keep down the dust as much as
we can," he said.
Hollis is also making sure to take care of his body - "we are doing some plunge pool stuff that
[Stephen
Gall's] got organised, to help recovery," he said.
"It seems to be working, I feel good now, I've just been in it, it's 12 degrees and it's really cold and not
really something to look forward to at the end of the day after a hard day's riding, to have to get into a
cold pool, but it definitely helps to recover and it's working really good."
Meo remained in third outright, trailing Roberts by about 9-seconds. Meo won one of today's tests
outright.
Forth outright continues to belong to Victoria's number one off-roader,
Blake Hore, of the Christensen's
Yamaha Off-Road Team. Hore finished 13th outright at last year's A4DE, which was his best four day
result to date.
"I just go out and do my best when it comes to the special tests I try to get in the zone I suppose and you
just go out there and pin it and what ever happens with everyone else, well you don't have anything to
do with all of that, all you can do is what you can," he said.
Roberts' teammate
Ben Grabham moved up four positions into fifth outright after Day 2.
Victoria and Australia's fastest will spend tomorrow in the Victorian bush before completing a final
motocross on Sunday at Lardner Park, Warragul, in the hope of winning Australian class titles, state,
club and trade team trophies and outright honors.
Day 3 (Saturday) of the event will follow a different course to Days 1 and 2, with competitors racing six
special tests phases and spending about 6 hours in the saddle.
Parc Ferme for the event is located at Buln Buln Recreation Ground. If you would like to get
autographs, watch the riders working on their bikes, leaving for or returning from the day's racing, come
to the recreation ground between 7am and 9am or 2pm and 4pm on April 17, 18 or 19. April 20 is the
final motocross at Lardner Park.
