Two-time Australian Dirt Track Champion and Husqvarna Supermotard star,
Troy Herfoss, leaves this weekend to compete against the likes of Jeff Ward,
Chris Fillmore, Doug Henry, and Mike Metzger in the first round of the
lucrative 2005 AMA Supermoto Championship being held in Wisconsin.
Herfoss will join former World Super Bike rider Leonardo Bagnis at Team GP
Husqvarna, the factory team contesting the American Supermoto circuit,
where he will compete in all rounds of the AMA Supermoto Championship.
"To get the opportunity to race under a factory banner in the AMA,
against some of the biggest names in the sport, is extremely rare"
explains Herfoss.
"Doors like this usually only open once in your career so I intend on
making the most of it and giving it everything."
Between rounds of the AMA series, Herfoss will travel back home to compete
in various Australian Supermotard events with the Australian Husqvarna
Racing Team. Paul Feeney, managing director of the Australian Husqvarna
distributor, the Paul Feeney Group, has high hopes for the 18 year old from
Goulburn;
"Troy is an exceptional talent and this AMA opportunity is the next
step in what I‰Ûªm sure will be a successful racing career," commented
Feeney.
"If his results to date are any indication, he (Herfoss) will not just be
another back marker. He has serious potential and with the backing of
the Husqvarna factory team, he will have the equipment required to
challenge the big names."
Husqvarna has an enormous presence in the AMA Supermoto Championship
Series, recently announcing the largest manufacturer‰Ûªs contingency payout
available in the AMA Supermoto Championship Series with up to
US$354,900 on offer.
The AMA Supermoto Championship consists of five rounds over five months,
starting on the 4 th June in Wisconsin and finishing with the "Red Bull
Supermoto A Go Go" held in Reno on the 1 st October.
