Herb Watson Racing's KTM 350 rider Louis Calvin has his sights firmly set on winning the Pro-Open class Privateer of the Year award in the MX Nationals.
Currently in 9th position despite several DNFs due to a few minor mechanical issues, Calvin is back in WA undergoing a very intense training programme to help him further improve and finish the season strongly.
"My fitness is good but these 4 race, back to back formats are tough but I'm happy to be hanging in there, especially considering that the standard of the Open class seems to get better and faster every year!", said Louis.
"My new training regime is unbelievably intense with 3 seperate 'military style' sessions most days, but the Privateer of the Year award is there for the taking and I intend to step it up even more and put myself in the shop window. I think I've steadily improved and I'm now right on the tails of the factory team riders in most motos. I'm still only 21 and I know I can improve alot more and I'd love the chance to ride a factory bike as I'm sure I can be competetive up at the pointy end and challenge for podium positions. I need to step it up going into the last few rounds and finish strongly and that's what I intend to do!"
UK rider Jamie Law will be returning to Australia to team up with Calvin for the final three rounds of the season. After a dissapointing result at Toowoomba having just jumped off the plane, Law is determined to make amends and show what he is really capapble of.
"The mud of Toowoomba was a nightmare and things didn't go exactly to plan", said Jamie,
"Now that I'm familiar with the team and the race formats and with 3 rounds to focus on, I'm hoping to make a better showing and mix it with the factory riders. Thanks again to Larry and Carl for giving me the opportunity, Louis is doing a great job on the KTM 350, especially as there are several World-class riders in Australia in the 450 class, but we're up for the challenge and we aim to make it two Herb Watson Racing bikes up in the top 10 for the last three rounds!"
