Kirk Gibbs has made a remarkable recovery and is in good spirits after suffering a horrific crash at Coolum over the weekend.
At the start of the final 30 minute moto of the 2012 National Motocross season, Gibbs was caught up in a crash on the notorious first tabletop at the Coolum track that has been the scene of a couple of high profile crashes over the years including Luke George's sicking crash in 2009.
Gibbs like George came together with another rider in the air, crashing on the the downside of the jump before being landed on by following riders with who had no chance to slow or avoid the downed Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha rider.
Gibbs was immediately attended to by the Suzuki Racesafe crew at the track with life threatening injuries. The team at Racesafe once again proved that they are a professional team and a vital part of the Monster Energy MX Nationals, quickly stabilising Gibbs before he was transported to a local Hospital for further observation.
Early signs weren‰Ûªt good, but the picture was brighter later that afternoon when reports filtered back to the track that Gibbs looked to be cleared of any serious injury.
Though remarkably already released from hospital, Gibbs will undergo a further series of scans on his head and body this week to reveal the true extent of his injuries.
‰ÛÏI can remember everything up to the jump before I crashed and then nothing until I came around in the RaceSafe truck." stated Gibbs. "I spent two nights in Hospital under observation and now have just finished getting some scans revealing a broken wrist, collarbone and a few other minor issues.
‰ÛÏI feel pretty beat up at the moment and really sore all over but it could have been a lot worse of it weren‰Ûªt for the RaceSafe team." said the Mount Gambier bases rider.
"I can‰Ûªt thank Simon and his team enough, they probably saved my life!‰Û
