From ISDE Gold To Dump-Trucks For Australia’s Jessica Gardiner

Posted:

Despite the fact that Jessica Gardiner finished second to the highly talented Swedish Enduro rider Emelie Karlsson at the conclusion of the 2013 Australian Off-Road Championships and also the Australian Four Day Enduro held in Western Australia this year, it is hard not to hold in regard as the current Queen of Australian Off-Road Racing.

Gardiner had a fantastic 2013 season on both the domestic and world stages with results that look great on paper, though when you dig a little deeper those results are actually quite astounding.

Gardiner topped the time sheets in the Women's class at three of the four days of this years Australian Four Day Enduro, with just a two minute time penalty on day two costing her a likely win.

A tough decision then was thrown Gardiner's way. Sitting 12 points clear at the top of the Australian Off-Road Championship and at the same time holding down second place in the World Enduro Championships, the rider from Sydney had to choose which championship she would focus on with the final round of both events falling on the same weekend.

Gardiner with the guidance of here family and close supporters made the decision to head to the final round of the World Championships forfeiting the Australian Championship. Unfortunately for Jess the final round of the World title proved to be a difficult one and she slipped from second to round out the Women's world championship in third position, still a fantastic effort in anyone's books.

Gardiner then picked up her first national championship win for 2013, winning the French title the week before the International Six Day Enduro was set to take place in Italy.

With a week of relaxation between the French championship and the 2013 ISDE Jessica came into the 2013 ISDE well rested and proceeded to lead Australian to the 2013 ISDE Women's Cup win and achieved a massive personal goalby taking the individual class honours along the way.

Despite two national runner up finishes in Australia, a third place overall finish at the world enduro championships, a national French Championship, leading Australian to the Women's ISDE Trophy and topping the individual honours in the Women's class at the ISDE, Gardiner finds herself back at work in her home town in New South Wales, working full time over the off season in order to save enough money to do it all again in 2014

"For now, it is back to reality driving my big dump-truck for JK Williams to save again for next years adventure." Gardiner told fullnoise.com.au in a interview that was posted up on the site yesterday. "I cannot thank my work for the amazing opportunities they are allowing me to experience while still coming home to a secure job.

While her male counterparts are busy signing contracts, recovering from injuries sustained in 2013 or already starting their preparations for the 2014 season, Jessica is well into negotiating her 2014 deals that will once again see her racing both internationally and domestically next year, though at this point in time she is not able to give to much away.

"Basically I can't release to much about 2014 as nothing is final yet, although most definitely you will be able to find me once again competing in as many Australian Nationals as possible, the A4DE and the World Enduro Championships again," Gardiner concluded.
