Tim Ferry, of Monster Energy Kawasaki, and Honda‰Ûªs Andrew Short are tied atop the standings in the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship presented by FMF coming into Steel City Raceway this Sunday, August 26, for the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Pro Motocross National in Delmont, Pennsylvania.
The legendary Steel City National is also the final round of the Monster Energy/Kawasaki Triple Crown of Motocross.
With seven-time AMA Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael now officially retired from AMA motocross racing and James Stewart suffering a knee injury last month at Washougal, Washington, and questionable for this race, the AMA Toyota Motocross Championship is completely up for grabs. Coming into Steel City both Ferry and Short find themselves in a position they‰Ûªve never been in and that‰Ûªs leading the premier series this late in the season. Just three rounds are left and Ferry and Short are hoping to make a final surge to the championship crown starting this Sunday.
Ferry, the 1992 AMA Motocross Rookie of the Year, was until this year considered a racer past his prime, but he‰Ûªs charged back for a second act that may just become the highlight of his career.
