Junior riders from Far Noarth Queensland were given an amazing opportunity to train for the upcoming Honda Australian Junior titles with a unique coaching experience over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of August.
Clubs in the region came together in support of their junior riders and with the support of Tablelands Regional Council were able to provide riders with a weekend of coaching from elite coach and sand specialist Jason Watson.
"Sand Tracks are rare in the far north and it is a huge journey down to Coolum and we wanted our Far Northern riders to be prepared" said Ravenshoe club president Tony Barrett.
Ravenshoe club decided to approach Watson from JWR KTM who is the ultimate sand specialist and see if we could get him to travel up to Etty Bay for a two day Aussie Titles preparation school.
Watson was more than happy to help out and made the long journey up by car, bringing his ktm 250 with him so that he would not only be able to explain essential sand techniques but also demonstrate them himself.
With news that Watson has been confirmed for the weekend of coaching both the Cairns and Mareeba clubs along with the Tablelands Regional Council saw the value in what helping the local riders and provided the rest of the funding.
"Once we had secured Watson as coach both Cairns and Mareeba clubs along with the Tablelands Regional council also came on board to help sponsor the event." added Barrett.
"The school was held at a private sand track at Etty Bay was exceptional ,with all riders having a brilliant weekend and gaining valuable sand skills." He concluded.
The Far North Queensland rider will now carry that extra experience with them at the Honda Australian Junior National Championships being held in Coolum Qld from the 29th of September through to the 6th of October.
