March 12 and 13 marks Round 1 of the Loose Kid Industries Queensland Supermoto Titles at Stanthorpe's Carnell Raceway. Following on from the huge success in 2010 with a large number of entries and some excellent racing.
The 2011 Qld Supermoto Series has been expanded and will feature a 2nd round in Mareeba, North QLD. Competitors from around Australia attend this event which is fast becoming a must do meeting for Supermoto Riders.
The Stanthorpe Track is a purpose built featuring two dirt sections and gives spectators a close up look at the action. The meeting caters for 450cc+, 450cc, 250cc and Veterans all looking to get their Supermoto fix. There will also be a return of the non-competitive demonstration class for novice riders, this enables recreational licence holders and one-day licence holders to get in on the on-track action without the pressure of racing.
After claiming the title last year
Ross Taylor will be the hot favorite going into this years JN's Race Products/Bridgestone S1 Over 450cc Class title. Taylor will be riding the all new 2011 Rising Sun Honda CRF470 and his cutting his overseas holiday short to be part of the action. Behind Taylor a number of other riders will be ready to pounce including
Tom Gardiner,
Pete Smith from NSW,
Johnny Milton and
John Newton. Gardiner will be looking to build on his results from last year on his KTM515 and is looking forward to the event.
"Its always a great event and I can't wait for the Big Bore war to begin!" says Gardiner. All the riders will be ready to unleash the brutal power of the big bore's into the Stanthorpe sand making for an exciting meeting.
Workshop 2000 Slacks Creek S2 450cc Class is considered the premier Supermoto class, S2 will be hotly contested again this year with a full grid expected yet again.
Linden Magee,
Beau Laing,
Luke Traill and
Jarrod Koppe will be the riders to watch after some very close racing last year.
Yamaha, Belray, Ixon Leathers YZF450 rider Luke Traill is well prepared for the event and hopeful for some good results.
"I have been training and I feel good! I had a track session last night and its all coming together. I am looking forward to seeing where I am at for 2011!" says Traill. Racing will go deep into the field with some very close racing throughtout the grid. Only a few points seperated the top 3 last year so the final results will most likely not be known until the last race is completed.
The Loose Kid Industries S3 250cc Class sees
Beau Laing on the MVD Racewear YZ250F as the man to beat again this year after dominating the 250's for the last few years. Up and comer
Sam Crossley will be one to watch after claiming the top C grader prize last year. The Yamaha rider will out to claim a top 3 finish ahead of the Motoworks/Sexy Man Cuts Husqvarna 250 piloted by young gun
Ben Endicott Davies. Meanwhile class new comer
Johnny Milton will lurking around the top 3 hoping to take home some silverware. The S3 class has been known to breed emerging talent and this year will be no exception as the young hungry riders duke it out for a spot on the podium.
Rebel Fm 97.1 Veterans Class - the 35yr old + class - is all always a great spectical. These riders are not afraid to bang bars and produce some of the most entralling racing of the meeting. Aging warrior
Steve Coppeck and president of the NSW Supermoto Club will be renewing his battle with the ageless
Pete Cox on his new Suzuki 450. Other riders
Darren Webb,
Steven Relph and
Ward Freeland will right there giving eachother a tough time. This popular class will be the one to watch and is always a favorite with the specatators.
Once again the non-competitive novice class will feature at the event which was very popular last year. The class is aimed at riders new to supermoto or those wishing to ride the track without the pressure of racing.
Geraldine Fitzgerald is looking forward to the event after getting a taste of Supermoto last year on her CRF150. "Hopefully this year I can make more than one lap without falling off" laughs Geraldine. Four riders from this class last year have since stepped up to the premier classes.
Overall it's shaping to be a major success and the 2 round series set to be a big boost for the sport in QLD. The Stanthorpe locals always support the riders and the event welcoming all with open arms. Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld always put on a great meeting and with additional support of Loose Kid Industries, Workshop 2000 Slacks Creek, Motoworks NZ, Rebel Fm, Bridgestone and JN's Race Products it should be even more exciting this year.
Get your entries in soon, it's going to be a great weekend!
