Track knowledge proved pivotal in the opening race of the 2014 Honda 150 European Championship as local wildcard rider Rick Elzinga shot to victory in Valkenswaard.
Fastest man in qualifying Jere Haavisto came home in second after a compromised start limited what he could achieve, while fellow-Fin Matias Murto finished third.
The electric Elzinga now puts himself in pole position to collect the overall race win and with it, a ‰âÂ300 reward from Fox Europe to redeem at their online store.
Race two will start at 11.15am on Sunday May 4, where conditions are once again expected to be bright with temperatures hovering around 17 degrees Celsius.
‰ÛÏIt was a great way to start what should be a highly competitive season." Davy Doussalaere, Honda Europe off-road manager said;. "Rick Elzinga rode fantastically well at the front of the pack, as did Jere Haavisto and Matias Murto, but there were others who had good moments, too.
"It‰Ûªs great to see a lot of young motorcross talent in the same place and quite a few riders have shown they have what it takes to perform to a high standard on a difficult and demanding MXGP track.‰Û
