Dungey’s odds firm as 2012 MX Champion as Stewart withdraws from Budds Creek

The only rider to beat Ryan Dungey so far in the 2012 Lucas Oils Pro Motocross Championship has been ruled out for this weekends round being held at Budds Creek.

James Stewart crashed heavily at round three held at Thunder Valley two weekends ago, leaving him with no points for the round, putting a dent in his championship hopes.

Things turned from bad to worse for Stewart last weekend when he tried to race through the pain of his wrist injury as he was only able to finish the first race in 5th position before electing to miss the second moto.

After weighing up his options for this weekends round at Budds Creek, Stewart has let the world know via Twitter this morning that he will be resting his injury this weekend with the hope of coming back in a few weeks time as the series takes a three week hiatus after this round, returning to Red Bud on the 7th of July.

"Sad to say but I won't be at Budds Creek this weekend." posted Stewart. "Things are getting better but still not where I need to be to be racing this Sat."

"Goodluck 2 everyone racing this weekend & I look forward to being completely healthy in a few weeks so I can race how I started the year off"

With Stewart out of the championship equation, Dungey is now the clear favourite for the championship title in 2012 after only four rounds. The Red Bull KTM rider now had a 42 point lead over second placed Mike Alessi, with Jake Weimer one point further back in third.

Dungey in the eight moto's to date has not finished behind any rider racing this weekend, with the only rider finishing in front of his so far this season being the injured Stewart.

The racing from Budds Creek gets away early Sunday Morning Australian time.
