Dubbo Dirt Bike Club – Round Four Race Report

Posted:

Perfect track conditions greeted Central West racers as they converged on the Morris Park MX circuit to compete in Round Four of Dubbo Dirt Bike Club Championship on Sunday July 25th.

In the Junior divisions Dubbo riders reigned supreme totally dominating the 50 cc and 65cc classes. However the Senior Mudgee riders brought their A game to town and blitzed the senior categories.

Jorden Yeo was the fastest 65 cc rider in the 7-10 year old class leading home Lachlan Colbran and hard charging Luke Grey. Dylan Behsman scored a well earned third place trophy in the under 13s.

Toby Adams showed that the smallest bikes on the circuit could almost clear the 18m table top as he piloted his way to the finish line and comprehensively won the 50cc division.

In the under 16s 85cc class things looked grim for Bradley Rankmore as he finished a distant third in race one. After a pep talk from Dad, Bradley refocused and went on to win the final two motos to finish in first place overall.

Peak Hill‰Ûªs, Elliot Learmonth rode consistently all day and kept his bike upright to finish with a second overall in the Junior Lites division.

After returning from a month‰Ûªs long training session in the USA and featuring in Australian Dirt Bike magazine, Mudgee‰Ûªs Matt Keipert returned to Dubbo and schooled the senior riders. Kiepert comprehensively won the Opens class and was again victorious in the All Powers.

Anticipation was high as the 250cc machines took to the track. Sam Williams and Aaron Rankmore didn‰Ûªt disappoint the spectators with each rider pushing their limits to the max. Nathan Cover also mixed it with the young guns and made them work overtime during each moto. After the dust settled, Williams had snatched a victory, the 40 year old Cover came in second and Rankmore was left in third place.

It was a battle of the bike shops in the over 30‰Ûªs category as Dubbo City Motorcycle‰Ûªs owner and holeshot hero duked it out with Robertson‰Ûªs Motorcycle‰Ûªs Brett Robertson. After gaining the lead in moto one, Mendham‰Ûªs pace dropped as he succumbed to Robertson‰Ûªs persistent attacks and surrendered his position in the final two motos. Mendham later claimed the 20 year age gap between the pair may have influenced the result, others suggested it was more of a case of who had the most intestinal fortitude!

In B grade Ashleigh Blenkiron, Riley Upcroft and Cobar‰Ûªs Bernie Swart traded positions all day. After the 7 lap final moto, Riley finished on top as Bernie and Ashleigh failed to complete the distance.

The next MX meeting at Dubbo will be a practice day on the 22nd of August. Fifty Dollars is the most it will cost for a day on the feature circuit of the Central West motocross scene, less if you have a race licence and are a member.
