Double podium to end Raceline Pirelli Suzuki’s season

Posted:

Raceline Pirelli Suzuki's rising stars Errol Willis and Jay Wilson rounded out the 2012 Australian Supercross Championships with podium positions at Newcastle Showground's fourth and final round at the weekend.

After dominating national Under 19s racing last year, Willis broke through for a maiden Pro Lites podium with third overall in the Main Event at Newcastle, saving his best for last for the Suzuki satellite squad.

Willis' result bumped him up to 12th in the championship standings after suffering an inconsistent campaign.

"The Raceline Pirelli Suzuki team and I worked hard all year, but it took 12 months for us to land on the podium in the Lites class - better late than never I suppose!" Willis commented. "I didn't feel like I had been able to showcase my talent until that point, so it was a good feeling.

"I've been fast all year, but my hip dislocation mid-season made things hard and it was a big deal to come back from that. I'm not sure what I will be doing for 2013 yet, I don't really have any offers, so at the moment I'm just waiting to see what happens."

New Zealand team-mate Scott Columb secured a top five finish in the Pro Lites standings with fifth overall; an outstanding result in what was his rookie season of Australian Supercross competition.

Columb continued his consistent run with seventh in the final race of the season.

Under 19s contender Wilson rode his RM-Z250 to third in the Main Event at Newcastle, sealing third in the championship after a promising season in the stadiums. The result is certain to boost the former junior World Champion into next year.

"It was good to get on the box at the end of the season after a rough start," Wilson reflected. "It wasn't the top step that we were aiming for, but we got on the podium and that's a satisfying result."

I'd struggled with injury at the start of the year, but we worked hard and the RM-Z250 was awesome. Raceline Pirelli Suzuki is a great team to be a part of and I'm proud of our efforts in 2012." he concluded.
