Desalle and Roczen win qualifying races for Monster Energy Grand Prix of the USA

Posted:

The Monster Energy Grand Prix of the USA has gotten underway with the MX1 and MX2 qualifying races at Glen Helen Raceway in California with Clement Desalle and Ken Roczen taking out the wins respectively.

Clement Desalle from Rockstar Energy Suzuki World MX1 team took the win in MX1 Qualifying race after running second in the early laps until he got by Honda's Evgeny Bobryshev in lap three. The Belgian rider expressed his satisfaction of getting his first Lovemytime pole position award of the season and he is determined to go for the overall victory tomorrow and take championship leaders the red plate back.

"The track is long with lots of jumps and it can be a bit dangerous," Desalle said.

"I started in fourth or fifth and got into second on the first lap. I focused only on my riding and it brought me up to a moment when I could make a pass and after that it was pretty easy. It is not so fast in places but it feels like a very long lap here; the downhill wave section is special. I will do my best to win tomorrow and keep on two wheels."

Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2's Max Nagl rode a consistent qualifying race and crossed the line in second. Nagl has missed the overall victory in Bulgaria and Valkenswaard but he has proved that Glen Helen might be the place to get his first Grand Prix victory of the season.

Third was Honda World Motocross' Evgeny Bobryshev, who managed to take the holeshot and led the race until lap three when Desalle got by.

Red Plate holder Steven Frossard from Monster Energy Yamaha finished fourth, but he is confident about tomorrow's races. The French rider injured his shoulder in Glen Helen but he confessed he is fully fit again to try to obtain his maiden MX1 overall victory.

Completing the top five was Portuguese rider Rui Gon̤alves from Honda World Motocross team, followed by David Philippaerts and Antonio Cairoli.

Anthony Boissiere had an excellent start and rode in third for the first three laps, but faded back to eighth.

Ken De Dycker had a problem with his bike and did not finish the race, Davide Guarneri and Xavier Boog also had a DNF with both crashing out.

In the MX2 class Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing MX2's Ken Roczen got his second Lovemytime pole position award after today's victory in the small bore class.

The German made a mistake during the sighting lap and injured two fingers of his left hand. However, the pain did not prevent him dominating finishing almost 12 second ahead his teammate Jeffrey Herlings.

At the Dutch Grand Prix last round, Herlings proved how good he is riding on the sand, so there is no doubt that he is also a rider to take into account for tomorrow's overall victory.

Third was other Red Bull Teka KTM Factory Racing rider Marvin Musquin on his return to the FIM Motocross World Championship. For Musquin this was his first race after his knee injury he sustained in Supercross at Bercy, so the Frenchman was very happy with this result.

CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit's Max Anstie took a solid fourth, ahead of Gautier Paulin. Tommy Searle finished sixth and was closely followed by Jordi Tixier..

Zach Osborne crashed while he was fifth and only managed 15th, his teammate Arnaud Tonus made a mistake on the first lap and he was not able to complete to the race.

The Veterans also had a race today with home rider Doug Dubach dominating it from beginning to end. Second was Darryll King, who managed to close the massive gap he had to Dubach and he crossed the finish line just two seconds behind the winner. Third was red plate holder Matts Nilson. Chuck Sun could not finish the race because he injured his ribs during the time practice and he was riding with too much pain.
