After qualifying with the second fastest time and only 0.3 behind Billy Mckenzie, Honda CRF450 mounted Dean Ferris finished strongly at Toowoomba's round four of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, running at the top end of the Pro Open field in each of the three motos.
Unfortunately, a DNF in moto two was the only stumbling block to Ferris finishing higher up on the day, however he retained his fourth position overall in the series and was pleased with his continued success.
"It was a crazy weekend of racing," Ferris said. "I came into qualifying with a new strategy and was very happy with the outcome as qualifying has not been my strength in the past."
Ferris got off to a top five start in moto 1, managing to pass eventual round runner-up Tye Simmonds.
"Once I made the pass, I closed the gap on Billy Mckenzie who was leading. With a few laps left to run, I went for the pass but unfortunately dropped it. I still managed to salvage 3rd place for moto 1."
After a serious crash in moto two, Ferris fortunately received medical clearance to front at the gates for the final showdown, and although still a bit sore, he was able to finish in third place once again after battling for the lead with series leader Jay Marmont.
"Although the day didn't pan out as I had planned, their are still positives to take home," he said. "I only lost 1 point to the championship leader despite having a DNF."
