With the strong support of Yamaha New Zealand, W. White Wholesale, Rideworx, Biketek, Rocstompa and the Phillips family, de Jager is set to compete in the National 500cc class aboard a Yamaha New Zealand supplied 2008 YZF 450cc over the four rounds of the New Zealand Championship. The aim for him is to achieve consistent top ten results. Coming off the back of a solid showing in the Australian Championship riding as a privateer outfit in the Pro Open class, de Jager feels confident that the objectives that he has set for the New Zealand Championship can be met. "I'm very much looking forward to contesting the New Zealand Championship for the first time and it is no doubt going to pose as a major challenge for me, but I'm hopeful of being inside the top ten on a regular basis," said an upbeat de Jager. "There is little difference between the New Zealand and the Australian Championships and thanks to the support of Yamaha Australia and Rocstompa they have given me the best chance to achieve my goals with the latest Yamaha YZF 450cc at my disposal." Apart from a top ten result, de Jager is also using the New Zealand Championship to gain more experience and more importantly more training, and he feels that this is the perfect opportunity for him to do so. "With the Australian Championship now over and the New Zealand Championship just starting up it made perfect sense to come over and contest this championship in order to improve my skills and gain more experience as a rider," the 19-year-old explained. "You simply can never get enough racing experience, and if I want to achieve my goals then this is just another step forward to trying to achieve a full-time career in the sport of Motocross as the competition is going to rival that of the Australian Championship back home." De Jager will be staying with good friend and fellow competitor Michael Phillips throughout his three month stay in New Zealand. The four round New Zealand Championship is set to kick off on September 29 / 30 in South Canterbury, followed by Rotorua (October 13 / 14), Hawkes Bay (November 10 / 11), and the final round at Taranaki (November 17 / 18).
