CDR/Boost Mobile/Yamaha's Darryll King has extended his lead in the Maxxis Australian Motocross Championships after taking a double moto win at round six in Appin, NSW, Sunday, July 18. Compatriot Cody Cooper (Team No Fear Honda) repeated King's feat in the Pro Lites class to make it yet another Kiwi sweep. With two rounds remaining both riders look to be on a collision course with the 2004 title. With the Sydney region experiencing one of its coldest nights on record riders arrived at the Appin circuit to see the results of overnight snow leave the track in very slick condition.

Pro Open
The King brother, Shayne (Team No Fear Honda) and Darryll set the scene for things to come when Shayne set the fastest qualifying lap of 2:16.031 with Darryll only a bit over a tenth of a second away, Lee Ellis (Sale Honda) was the next in a group of four that where all in the 2:18's. Motorex KTM's Jay Marmont was looking for his first win of the season and set about it by taking the holeshot in the opening moto with Shayne King and Cheyne Boyd (Motorex KTM) in tow. Whilst the status-quo remained up front for the first five laps is was Darryll King who started to sneak through the field after following the lead group in fourth. By lap ten of the fifteen DK had made his way to the front where he would remain until the flag. After a short battle with Marmont Shayne King moved into second. In the closing laps Marmont came under attack from his team-mate Boyd, with Boyd taking the final podium spot on the second last lap. Fullthottle Sports Honda rider Corrie Sargent followed Marmont home in fifth with Troy Carroll (CDR/Boost Mobile/Yamaha) and Ellis following him in that order - Ellis, who sits fourth in the championship rode the first 10 laps in fifth until crashing. Moto 2 was all about the King brothers as Shayne lead the first seven laps until Darryll made his way past and lead the final seven. Behind the two front runners Carroll and Brad Hibberd (Moto1 Yamaha) where involved in a do or die battle that ended with them both on the ground. Ellis and Sargent where there to take advantage of the situation and moved into third and fourth respectively. Whilst Ellis and Sargent where pre-occupied with each other Marmont had snuck up on both and moved into third on the tenth lap. Up front DK held of brother Shayne by just under 2 seconds to take the daily double, a massive 45 seconds back was who Sargent who made it a Kiwi podium when he got the better of Marmont on the second last lap. Boyd this time finished fourth behind his team-mate with Carroll and Ellis following respectively. Darryll King now holds a 39 point lead in the championship over Shayne with two rounds left in the series.
Pro Lites Podium. Taylor, Cooper and Dorron (LtoR)
Pro Lites
Team No Fear Honda's Cody Cooper was once again dominated the Pro Lites at Appin, clocking a qualifying time of 2:18.817, he was a full 2 seconds quicker than team-mate Troy Dorron who could only manage a 2:20.936. As he has done on so many occasions this season, Cooper kicked of the opening moto with a shocking start, although not as bad as some of his previous efforts, he rounded the first lap in seventh. It was another No Fear Honda rider in Jye Harvey who took the early running with Cameron Taylor (CDR/Boost Mobile/Yamaha), Dorron, Barry Morris (Jpi Industries), Warren Smart and Daniel McCoy (CDR/Boost Mobile/Yamaha) ending the first lap in that order. Serco Yamaha's Wade Thompson's run ending on the first lap as the Gilman moto winner crashed out. Whilst Harvey lead the first four laps then Dorron the next four, Cooper was steadily working his way forward and by lap eight had reached the head of the field. From there he controlled the race to run out an eight second winner. Taylor never dropped out of the top three for the moto and staged a late race battle with old sparring partner Dorron that ended up with him getting the upper hand and taking second. McCoy rode a fairly un-eventful race for fourth and Daniel Reardon (Whales Kawasaki) following him home almost 15 seconds back. Moto 2 saw Cooper put it together right from the drop of the gate when he grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Behind him Dorron recovered from an average start to battle Taylor for second before Taylor was demoted to fourth by his team-mate McCoy. With McCoy falling half a second short of Dorron at the race end, it was a No Fear one, two. with Taylor holding onto fourth it was a CDR three, four. Reardon capped of a consistent weekend when he took a fifth for the second time, he was followed by Robbie Marshall in sixth. Cody cooper now holds a 26 point lead over Cameron Taylor for the championship. Rookies
Matt Moss took 2 wins over brother Jake to take out the Rookies class. Third placed overall Justin Carafa was the only other rider besides Matt Moss to lead a lap when he took both holeshots and lead the first lap of each moto. Matt Moss took the lead on the second lap of both motos and rode un-challenged. Jake Moss on the other hand took until the second last lap on each occasion to overcome Carafa and finish with two second places. Carafa finished with two third places. Alan Carter was also in the mix, running in second for a while before finishing the day in fourth. The next round of the championship now moves to Newcastle on August the 1st.
