Darryl Hiddle was unanimously re-elected as Motorcycling Victoria's president by the organisation's Life Members and Club Delegates last Wednesday, April 13 at the Newport-Braybrook Motorcycle Club in Spotswood.
This will be Mr Hiddle's 11th consecutive year at the top job in Victoria and his third term as president. Mr Hiddle is also the current President of the F̩d̩ration Internationale de Motocyclisme's Continental Union of Oceania, FIM's regional governing body of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
CEO of Motorcycling Victoria, Andrew Weiss, is ecstatic with the appointment.
"Darryl has once again taken on a demanding position and I am confident that his experience and unquestionable passion for the sport of motorcycling will steer MV towards a strong future," said Mr Weiss.
Motorcycling Victoria is the State Controlling Body for all sporting and recreational motorcycling activities in Victoria. MV caters for nine different racing disciplines and currently has around 4500 members spread over 60 clubs throughout the state.
Mr Hiddle oversaw major improvements to the State Motorcycling Sports Complex at Broadford during his last term as president. Major upgrades at Broadford, spearheaded by Hiddle, helped secure the successful opening round of the 2011 Rockstar Energy MX Nationals held in March.
"I would like to see Broadford build another road race track in the not-too-distant future. The SMSC is a special place for motorcycle sport in this country ‰ÛÒ we need to stay ahead of the curve to maintain the venue's prominent status," remarked Mr Hiddle.
Changes to the 2011 Board also includes outgoing Board Members Mr Francis Conroy and Mr James Nelson.åÊ
"Being a Board Member really is an extraordinary commitment," added Mr Weiss. "The outgoing Board functioned extremely well, and made significant progress throughout 2010. I'd like to thank both Francis and James for all their hard work. Their dedication has been immeasurable to the sport."
"Motorcycle sport in Victoria is heading in the right direction," continued Darryl. "Clubs need to take more ownership over their circuits, and a clearer understanding needs to be fostered between clubs and committees. A greater cohesion between all those involved is needed so our sport can move together on the same path."
Six of Motorcycling Victoria's Board Members serve two year terms, whilst the remaining five serve one year terms.
