Daniel McCoy will be gunning for the top step of the podium at round four of the UK Arenacross championship when the series heads to Liverpool this weekend for round four of the championship.
After opening the season with a 4th and 6th place in the double header held in Belfast, McCoy raced to a second place finish behind Frenchman Fabien Izoird last weekend at Birmingham, a result that elevated him into second place in the standings, one point ahead of British rider Steven Clarke in 3rd.
Though heading into the championship with no real expectations, the series so far has been pretty much what McCoy was expecting, with close racing on very tight tracks held inside small stadiums.
"It's a lot of fun and it's what I thought it would be like very tight and the tracks really basic," McCoy told fullnoise.com.au this week regarding the UK series. "It's very tight and the top ten riders can be on the same second in lap times.
"You need to be in the top five times to get a good gate pick for your first heat, then you a need good heat finishes to get a good gate pick for the main to have any chance at wining. The start is the most important part if the night."
"Sitting in second position is good though being fourteen points down on lzoird is a bit of a gap, but anything can happen with such close racing like this," McCoy added.
McCoy will now head into the third round of the championship in Liverpool this weekend aiming for his first win of the season and to close in on Izoird in the points standings.
"The aim this weekend is to beat Izoird from the start and not let him pass me like he did at Birmingham, I thought I was good on hard pack he was just better," McCoy admitted.
"I will set out to do the same as last weekend, the only change being to stand on the top step. I had it in the bag last week and gave it away," he concluded.
McCoy will be joined on the start line in Liverpool by fellow Australian
Luke Arbon. For more information on the UK Arenacross Championship
