Woodstock Honda Thor rider Daniel McCoy has received the necessary medical clearance to race in the final round of the 2008 Australian Motocross Championship in Coolum (QLD) on Sunday 3 August.
Best practice to ensure riders are fit to race, medical clearance is required by both the Motocross Series Promoter and the sport's governing body, Motorcycling Australia.
In McCoy's case, he required medical approval to compete in the series finale due to a serious crash that prematurely ended his previous round and the talented Honda racer was transported by ambulance to hospital with suspected concussion.
Further medical examination confirmed McCoy's concussion, but also revealed laceration to his kidney and a minor shoulder injury.
Taking a week to rest and recuperate, the 24-year-old star has been re-assessed by his physician and given the all-clear to race this weekend.
Declared fit to race, McCoy now aims to boost his Honda CRF450R back up the order, after the crash also took its toll on his championship battle and as he left the track without any points, slipping to seventh in the overall series standings.
Sitting just seven points behind fifth place, McCoy is poised to reclaim his top-five spot and finish the series on a high note at Coolum Pines Motocross Park.
"Monday was the first time I've been out riding and it's been good for me to have a week off," McCoy said.
"I'm feeling pretty good and I'm slowly getting back into it.
"By the weekend, I'll be ready to go‰Û_ I'm in good shape and have got nothing to hold me back."
Team Manager Brad McAlpine said, "Rider safety is paramount and we're very pleased that Daniel has recovered well and has been given clearance to race this weekend.
"To come back so quickly really shows his determination to race this final event.
"He's been is such good form over the previous rounds and he will be able to finish the season strongly and hopefully take back his top-five spot."
