Reigning Speedway World Champion Jason Crump has taken 15 world championship points and finished a credible fourth at the FIM Torun Speedway Grand Prix of Poland today.
The Australian took three heat race wins and finished second in his other two, easily progressing through to the semi finals.
Crump opted for gate one in his semi but was pipped by Rune Holta for the race win, which gave him third gate pick for the final.
Despite moving into second off the start in the final, Crump battled with Jarosalw Hampel and Holta throughout the race and just missed the podium.
"I am not quite at the ultimate place where I am going all out to win it but it is coming," Crump explained. "I needed to make the cut tonight and I did that, but I wasn't quite good enough in the final race.
"In my semi I didn't quite have the confidence to take the outside gate, so I took gate one because I thought It gave me a better chance to get a win and make the final. It didn't quite work out for me, Holter got a good run on the outside and just managed to get me, which gave me third pick.
"It was a bit frustrating but with the way things have been going in the last few Grand Prix's it is still a big step forward. There are now three weeks until Cardiff which gives me six meetings to get going, and hopefully that is what I need," he concluded.
Today's result sees Crump reduce the points gap to the top three in the championship standings. On 58 points he is just one point behind third placed Kenneth Bjerre and 20 points behind championship leader Tomasz Gollob.
Crump heads straight back to Poland for tomorrow's Polish League match where he will line up for Wroclaw.
The FIM Torun Grand Prix of Poland was won by Tomasz Gollob who was joined on the podium by Rune Holta and Jaroslaw Hampel.
