Coisy and Leuret wrap up French SX TItles

Posted:

The ninth and last round of the SX Tour ‰ÛÒ French Championship was another great success, with an overbooked Palais des Sports in Grenoble. Home of the 1968 Olympic Games, the Alpine capital met for the 3rd season in a row the SX Tour (former Eurocup SX) and confirmed that this championship organised mainly in France (but counting rounds in Spain ‰ÛÒ Barcelone - and Switzerland ‰ÛÒ Geneve -) is now with any doubt the greatest European Supercross series.

With a total of nine events ‰ÛÒ and fourteen racing nights ‰ÛÒ and 110000 spectators from Lavaur (first round in June) to Grenoble (last round in December), Jean Luc and Thierry Fouchet reached their goal and built a serious SX series. Some French kids ‰ÛÒ such as Benjamin Coisy, Fabien Izoird or the Pourcel brothers ‰ÛÒ improved their SX level in this series and will probably get many other trophies in the future. Crowned champion in the 125 class before this last round, Benjamin Coisy ‰ÛÒ who will move to the US in two weeks and race the 125 West Coast Championship ‰ÛÒ was unlucky during the first night, as he broke his rear brake in the main event and was forced to retire. Fabien Izoird won the main, followed by Christophe Pourcel who lost time with a poor start ‰ÛÒ he was using a 125 against 250 four stroke ‰ÛÒ and a crash‰Û_. Coisy took his revenge on Saturday, winning the last main event of the season; he got another holeshot and led the race, but just behind him Izoird never gave up and finished only four seconds behind him. Third was Pourcel, who made a mistake in the whoops section and lost too much time to contest the win to Coisy‰Û_ Despite the fact that he missed the beginning of the series Christophe finished third in the standings, behind Benjamin Coisy and Fabien Izoird. In the Open class Pascal Leuret secured the title during the first night; he got the holeshot and led the entire race, followed by Alexandre Rouis and Cyrille Coulon now racing on a Suzuki. Stephan Demartis lost his last chances to be crowned with a fifth position behind Spaniard Manuel Rivas. On Saturday Leuret ended the season with another win, leading the race from the first to the last corner. Coulon got another podium; second in the first lap and then third after a mistake, he finally passed Pierrick Paget ( now racing for Yamaha France) in the penultimate lap; fourth was Manuel Rivas and fifth Alexandre Rouis. Only eleventh, Stephan Demartis was unlucky; he broke his handle bar during his qualifying race, had a bad position on the grid and made a mistake during the main event. He finishes the SX Tour in second behind Leuret; third was Rouis. Main Photo:
