New Zealand's Cody Cooper got his 2014 racing season off to a great start winning the premier MX1 Woodville GP in New Zealand on Sunday the 26th of January.

While it was KTM Australia's Ford Dale who set the early pace after qualifying fastest and winning the opening two races, Cooper was able to come through and claim victory in the MX1 class, winning the final moto after Dale was forced to pull out of the race.

Two other rides to benefit from Dale pulling out of the final race were Brad Groombridge who moved into second place in the standings and KTM Australia's Kirk Gibbs who come through to round out the overall podium.

‰ÛÏToday wasn‰Ûªt a bad start." Gibbs stated. "I started off slow ‰ÛÒ I‰Ûªve been riding a little but only got back on the track three weeks ago and I knew today would be a bit of a task.

"I got real bad arm pump in the first two but from there on it got sorted out and I rode good. I‰Ûªve still got a while to be where I need to be for the nationals, so I can take good stuff from this, do some more testing in the next few weeks and get the ball rolling even better.‰Û

In the MX2 class it was Kayne Lamont who come through with the goods finishing the day with 67 points to claim the class win ahead of John Phillips and Hamish Dobbyn.

In the Blue Wing Honda-Invitation Feature Race Cooper once again claimed victory this time head of Dale who was more than happy with his first hit out since being sidelined with a knee injury nine months ago.

‰ÛÏI feel really good overall, the bike was just unreal and the testing work is paying off." Dale commented. "Our preparation for the Nats has started well.

"In the last moto I just cramped up. My hands locked up on the first lap so I came in. I was pretty gutted, I really felt like I was going to win but that‰Ûªs the way it is so I‰Ûªve got to take the positives with the negatives.

"Everything with the team is working really well," he concluded.

Gibbs round out the podium in the feature event with Groombridge just behind in fourth. JCR Yamaha's Billy Mackenzie who races for the CDR Yamaha team in Australia finished in 5th position.
