Round three of the 2026 AMA Supercross season delivered another thrilling night at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, with Chase Sexton claiming his first win with Kawasaki in the 450SX class and Haiden Deegan taking back-to-back victories in the 250SX West class.
After some rain earlier in the week, the track was in prime condition, offering fast, flowing lines and plenty of opportunities for riders to make their moves. The night’s results tightened up the championship standings, adding extra tension to the early stages of the season.
Sexton’s win in the 450SX class came after a calculated but aggressive ride, allowing him to leapfrog Ken Roczen in the points and narrow the gap to championship leader Eli Tomac, while Hunter Lawrence continued his strong form with a second-place finish. In the 250SX West class, Deegan again showed why he is a dominant force early in the season, holding off challenges from Michael Mosiman and Ryder DiFrancesco to take the win and extend his championship lead.
450 Class
In 450 qualifying, Chase Sexton set the pace with the only sub-one-minute lap of the day, a 59.950 in the second session, despite crashing through the whoops shortly afterwards. Justin Cooper followed with 1:00.453, RJ Hampshire third at 1:00.496, Ken Roczen fourth at 1:00.508, and Joey Savatgy fifth on 1:00.652. The top 10 were all within a second, highlighting the competitive depth of the 450SX field, while Championship leader Eli Tomac and second in the standings Hunter Lawrence qualified seventh and tenth, respectively.

In Heat 1, Jorge Prado grabbed the holeshot, with Lawrence and Aaron Plessinger close behind. Plessinger quickly passed Lawrence to chase Prado, while Roczen recovered from a slow start to fourth, and Austin Forkner held the final transfer spot. Plessinger’s late crash on a huge double handed Prado the heat win, though Plessinger remounted to finish eighth.
Heat 2 saw RJ Hampshire get the holeshot before Cooper Webb and Sexton surged past. Sexton moved through the whoops and around Webb, only to crash in the sand. Eli Tomac applied pressure to Webb and seized the lead with under two minutes remaining, while Sexton and Malcolm Stewart battled back through the pack. Jason Anderson ran a strong solo third, with Tomac taking the heat win and Justin Hill claiming the final transfer spot.

In the main event, Jason Anderson snuck to the holeshot with Sexton charging behind him. Lawrence moved past Sexton into second, while Tomac slotted in fourth. Roczen crashed early after getting hung up off the start and dropped near last. Sexton reclaimed second from Lawrence and briefly battled Anderson before pulling clear. Tomac made his move on Lawrence and Anderson, but slipped back temporarily as positions shuffled through the pack. Lawrence eventually settled into second, while Cooper Webb and Plessinger trailed behind, Stewart rode on despite injury, and Roczen climbed back to eighth. In the end, Sexton took his 17th win, Lawrence second, and Tomac third. Tomac maintained his championship lead by eight points over Lawrence, while Sexton moved into third, a point ahead of Roczen.
After a challenging run that began with his crash at the Las Vegas SMX finale, Chase Sexton said his Anaheim 2 victory was as much about patience and belief as outright speed, marking a significant personal milestone as well as his first win with Kawasaki.
“It’s been a long few months, going back to the [crash at the] Vegas SMX finale,” Sexton reflected. “That was not good for me. It’s hard to get back here [atop the podium], honestly. It’s been a journey. Even after the Heat Race tonight I was wondering what I was doing wrong and knew I needed to just go out there and do my laps. I strapped up for the Main Event and just rode solid and more within myself. I can’t say enough about the team and everything they’ve done to get us to this point. It’s good to put Kawi back on top.”
Second-placed Hunter Lawrence reflected on a measured but encouraging night at Anaheim 2, pointing to ongoing bike development and the need for greater consistency as key takeaways from his second-place finish in the 450SX main event.
“I just need a little more consistency throughout the day. Every time I went on the track I made a change to the bike, so every time I was learning the track again and trying to adapt to the bike. However, we are learning a lot and hopefully we can carry that through the rest of the series. I need to be better from the start through the beginning of the race. You could see I was a bit slow to get going, but I picked it up towards the end.”
Eli Tomac, now the lone rider to finish on the podium in each race thus far, said the constantly shifting battle at the front demanded everything from him as he fought on both sides of the equation before ultimately securing another valuable podium finish.
“I felt like I was in offence and defence mode the whole time during that Main Event – it was very busy!” Tomac said. “I was happy to claim a podium spot tonight, but also, there are a couple of things I think back to that maybe I could have done differently to try and stay in front of Hunter [Lawrence], but that’s all should have, would have, could have at this point. This race had a bit of everything, but everyone is hauling the mail, and the pace was super-fast. It’s good to finish with a podium here – if you had told me at the beginning of the series that I’d go 1-1-3, that’s an awesome start, so I’m proud of the team.”

250 West
In 250SX qualifying, Haiden Deegan and Levi Kitchen went back and forth for the fastest lap, with Deegan ultimately taking pole at 1:00.591, improving nearly two seconds from Q1. Kitchen finished second at 1:00.817, just 0.3s off Deegan’s pace, while Max Anstie qualified third at 1:00.884. Ryder DiFrancesco and Hunter Yoder rounded out the top five.
The opening heat saw Chance Hymas grab the holeshot with Kitchen close behind, while Max Vohland and DiFrancesco battled for third. Kitchen repeatedly lost time on the second triple, leaving Hymas out front. Chaos struck when a crash involving Brandon Ray brought out the red cross flag, and Kitchen went over the bars on the triple before remounting. Contact between Ty Freehill and Hunter Schlosser ended Freehill’s challenge, leaving Hymas to take the heat win.
Heat 2 had Cameron McAdoo start strong before Anstie cut underneath, pushing McAdoo wide and allowing Deegan and Michael Mosiman through. Deegan executed a clean outside pass for the lead, while Avery Long outlasted Anthony Bourdon for the final transfer. Deegan, Anstie, and Mosiman completed the top three heat finishers.
In the 250SX main event, Michael Mosiman grabbed the holeshot as Hymas and Kitchen crashed out in the first turn. Deegan surged past Mosiman and Vohland to move into second, while McAdoo pressured Vohland for third. Mid-race, McAdoo secured third, and DiFrancesco moved past Vohland to set up a chase on McAdoo. With three minutes remaining, Deegan overtook Mosiman for the lead, and DiFrancesco made a late pass on McAdoo to finish third. Anstie finished sixth after battling Hunter Yoder. The final top five read Deegan, Mosiman, DiFrancesco, McAdoo, and Vohland, giving Deegan back-to-back wins and a nine-point championship advantage over Mosiman, with a 10-point cushion over Anstie.
After securing his second straight Western Regional 250SX victory, Haiden Deegan paid respect to his closest rival following a hard-fought Anaheim 2 main event, saying: “That was amazing. Good ride. Solid ride. I need to give it up to [Mosiman], when people put in that extra work a lot of the time it goes unnoticed. He’s the only guy I see out there putting in the extra effort. I gotta give him credit and that’s what makes him such a tough competitor.”

Michael Mosiman continued the strongest start of his Supercross career at Anaheim 2, leading much of the 250 West Main Event on his way to a hard-earned runner-up finish and a second consecutive podium result, afterwards reflecting on both the moment and the work behind it: “It feels great [to be on the podium]. Every time I go to the gate I look up at the stands, see all the fans, and make sure I appreciate the moment. We put in so much work just to be able to perform, and when that happens, it’s just an amazing feeling. I’m stoked on the race and stoked on my start. Whenever you can get a holeshot that makes a world of difference.”

Ryder DiFrancesco continued his early-season momentum at Anaheim 2, charging from outside the top 10 to secure another podium finish inside Angel Stadium and claim the second top-three result of his Supercross career, just two rounds after breaking through for the first time at the season opener. “I’m really happy with my A2 result and how I charged through the Main Event,” reflected DiFrancesco. “I started around eighth and worked my way up to third place, which is a confidence-booster in being able to climb from the mid-field. I found some good lines tonight while I was coming through the pack and I knew that if I could be there toward the end of the race – and nail the three, three, after the whoops – that I could get close and make a pass for the podium. I’m glad that I proved to myself that I can start mid-pack and still land on the box, and now I’m ready for the Triple Crown next weekend!”
The Championship now heads to Houston for the first Triple Crown event of the 2026 season next weekend.
